Kaffihús is the moniker for a fictional nordic café located in New York. The icy color palette and patterning express the culture and clime of modern Scandinavia, and invoke hygge, the idea of embracing winter with excellent company, a hot coffee paired with something sweet, and an inviting atmosphere.
This poster is centered on the word “complexity,” which brings to mind the idea of a complex machine; producing and churning out art and design. While very abstract, the simple shapes in the poster suggest a network of pipes, gauges, buttons, and knobs. The vibrant color palette brings a playful quality to the balance the somewhat sterile feel of machinery, and to show that the Senior Show is the result of both creativity and tireless production.
Renaissance emblem books were collections of poetic writing—often bearing metaphysical messages—paired with corresponding allegorical images that prompted the viewer to meditate on the meanings. Moderne Emblemes is a modern exploration of such books, balancing the duality of modernity and antiquity through layout, illustration, and poetry. The book’s theme is concerned with “discordia concors” or the balance of opposites—a metaphysical concept often invoked by Renaissance poets.
Vandermark is an avant-garde band from New York. Drawing from acts as diverse as Radiohead, Mew, Deftones, and Underoath, they have honed a sound that is heavy and light, electronic and raw, uplifting and unsettling. The conglomerate, cut-and-paste feel of their music is accentuated by the use of collage in the artwork for their debut EP, Violence! We Walked On Glass which releases early 2017.
The Adirondack Folk School is a non-profit organization that strives to preserve the heritage of the Adirondacks through the teaching of various homemade crafts such as woodworking, blacksmithing, and basketry. I rebranded AFS with a focus on the idea of the modern-day artisan and chose a rustic yet clean aesthetic loosely inspired by the Early American era.
Studio 324 is the newsletter for the Picotte Center for Art & Design at the College of Saint Rose. The design applies a limited yet playful color palette and a clean, modern layout to match with the boxy, Bauhaus-like architecture of Picotte.
